Day Zero
I decide closing day is Day 0. I visit my storage area and bring back the few boxes I have already acquired. I think about where to start packing. I order items for the cats (Raisin and Grape) for the four or five day drive to Oshkosh. A pet playpen for the hotel rooms, a large double carrier for the back seat that has a divider I can use if they take out the stress of the move on each other. I scour FB marketplace for moving boxes and bring home a car load full. It is 114 degrees according to the car thermometer.
I take a break and hydrate and start making lists. I set up a small, three section notebook:
One section for the drive to Wisconsin. My route, hotels and what to take in the car will go here. The next section I put in room measurements and will add measurements of the furniture I am taking. The last section is for a list of all the boxes and contents. In theory this will help me find things after I move. I have done it before and technically it works, but trying to find one particular box in a sea of boxes is never easy.
For this move I have bought a multi-pack of duct tape in six different colors. I am thinking this will be easier to see than little dots or trying to find a number written on one side.
I get a popsicle and watch two episodes of “Ride or Die”. I am done for the day.
